Species Identification Confidence:
I'm very confident
Individual(s) Observed (seen)
I was at a camp site with my family and saw it run past about 80-100 yards away. I only saw it briefly, but it had a very obvious "grizzled" color. We all jumped in the truck and drove down the road looking for it. A ways down the road we saw it briefly on the road before it wheeled and jumped into the brush. My impression was that it was very large and the hump was obvious.

Not only am I a wildlife biologist, I have been through the IDFG bear awareness training. I understand that color and hump are not 100% accurate for identifying grizzly bears, but in the brief views that I had, the two signs together (not including the size) lead me to believe confidently that it was a grizzly bear. In addition, I have seen six black bears this year and none of them had any of the traits that I described here.
