Species Account:
We live 6 miles west of Hailey near Rock Creek Canyon. Saturday evening March 4th we saw the wolverine at a distance of about 100 yds. from our house. We observed it for about 10 minutes travel down our road and up on the snow banks. He appeared a large male - I would guess 50 lbs. My wife and I thought it was a small bear at first. The animal was dark brown/black and had short legs, big paws, and a huge fluffy tail that curved down to the ground. On our way into town we observed it cross the ice pond near our house and it started hunting voles near a telephone pole. He was not concerned about of presence as we sat and watched him hunt. The animal was definitely not a bear, badger, coyote or wolf.
