Species Account:
Sighted bear about 150 yards away in an opening. I was just east of Sawtelle peak at about 7600 elevation. Bear did not approach me only in sight for about 15-20 seconds. He turned north and went into the trees. It was an open range area and cows were in the area that quickly moved away. Bear did not seem very big, so I believe he/she was young.
