Species Account:
my wife and i were driving home when she saw the elk in the ditch on the north bound side of highway 95 just past Hootn Hollow road and that when she told me to turn around to check it out no one else was there i did so and walked up to the calf elk with no distinguishing marks (about 300-400lbs.) in the ditch when it turned its head towards me and what sounded like to me as a bark just very high pitched then turned its head back the other direction and stayed there we called the sheriff and they came out. They arrived at about 7:00 pm and shot the elk twice once in the chest cavity and once in the head, shortly after our truck arrived when we loaded it up and took it home.
