Abstract:

This document describes the boxelder bug (2 species in Idaho: western boxelder bug, Boisea rubrolineata, and boxelder bug, B. trivittata), its host plants, and seasonal life cycle. Photos are included. The document also describes landscape features that attract boxelder bugs. Management options are discussed for the homeowner who has boxelder bugs at pest status, including changes that can be made to structures and yard so they're less useful for the bug and safe use of pesticides and less toxic alternatives.
