Species Account:
I was riding my mountain bike south on ridge road from bogus basin. I was on a slight downhill going about 30 mph downhill around a gradual right hand turn. 50 feet away on the slope to my right/south was a wolverine ready to make its way across the road. seeing me it bolted in a northerly direction across the road and directly in front of me in an attempt to outrun me and get down hill. I came within less <10 feet of the animal as when it crossed in front of me it was on a nearly parallel course. The animal was long, low to the ground, thick triangular tail, was dark brown on top with grey along its sides. Its face looked like a dog. The sighting ended as the wolverine made it to the north side of the road and descended through the brush. I did not stop to explore not wanting to risk any sort of antagonization. I continued my ride onto mahalo about 3/4 mile from my sighting. While on the trail i came across a destroyed bicycle feature that had consisted of a large log to ride across. Something, had moved this large cut into place log and opened a hole exposing the colony of large black ants inside. I road mahalo the day prior and the feature was in tact. Had i not seen the wolverine that day I would have assumed that a black bear had done the job. Has anyone reported a sighting this close to Boise?
