Species Account:
She was most likely a 2-3 year old. Full winter coat brown and tan. Highway deptartment official assisted in salvage along with ISP (who completed the kill) she was hit in the right hind quarter and had a broken pelvis and leg. After ISP dispatched the elk and upon clean out of the torso it was discovered that the elk was pregnant. The embryonic sack was about 5lb in weight and about the size of a basketball. The incident took place on hwy 30 mile marker 416 in bear lake county between soda springs and Georgetown summit around 1am.
