Species Account:
color: brown, size: full grown female. Animal had fully crossed highway 21 going east to west when she was caught in my headlights and started back across. I collided with the elk hitting her right front shoulder with the driver's side front fender, headlight, and grill. This happened just north of mile marker 40. I pulled over, my son Carlin, his friend Jay, and I checked on the condition of the animal. She was struggling trying to get to her feet but could not. She died within 10 minutes of the accident. I reported the incident to officer Dave Lee of the Idaho City PD. He gave me a report number, 45086.
He also noted that I could salvage the elk and get a salvage permit.
