Species Account:
Glassing the Red Conglomerate Peak in Clark County for mountain goat...Irving creek drainage of Medicine Lodge Creek (on a ridge between forks near BLM fence)...had seen a whitish canid in the brush and thought coyote but heard a vocalization to my east and then saw about half a mile to the west coming out of the brush and going through a grassy saddle...a large grey canid with a trailing smaller whitish canid, probably the one I first saw at close range. Using Zeiss 10X binocs...have a zoology degree and hunt/fish a lot so not a mountain newby. The size difference and color difference and size at that distance plus the wolf howl pretty much nailed the observation as far as I'm concerned. Near great divide which I believe to be a corridor from Yellowstone to Central Idaho.
