Abstract:

Payette and Boise National Forests are in the process of developing base level information about ecosystems for the purpose of conducting analyses for planning processes and to populate USDA Forest Service national databases. One component of this effort specific to Payette National Forest is the influence of past wildfire events on populations of, and habitats for, rare plant species. Tasks associated with this goal are (1) documenting the location and status of rare plant populations and (2) developing Forest-wide existing vegetation maps. The specific objectives of this study are: (1) relocate rare plant populations that occur in burned areas and document conditions; (2) field review existing vegetation mapping signature data collection efforts; (3) provide documentation of non-forest dominance types on the Payette and Boise National Forests; and (4) field test existing information and provide recommendations for the classification of non-forest habitat types.
