Abstract:

This report covers the sixth year (2007) of surveys on previously unsurveyed portions of lands owned by the Soulen Livestock Company, which had entered into a Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and the Governor's Office of Species Conservation. Surveys here are conducted to identify additional occupied ground squirrel sites and potential ground squirrel translocation sites. In 2007, survey efforts concentrated on previously unsurveyed areas around Cinnabar Ranch and Center Ranch. No southern Idaho ground squirrels were found during the surveying in May and June. To date, no southern Idaho ground squirrels have yet been found north of the Road Gulch area, though many of the most likely places have been searched; however, many places remain to be searched. Areas with potential for reintroduction were found in several places: they are east of Center Ranch, southeast of Cinnabar Ranch, and west of Paddock Reservoir that appeared suitable. The author expects to finish surveying Soulen Livestock Company lands in 2008.
