Abstract:

This report presents the results of wildlife surveys conducted July 17-20, 2006, at eight locations on Saylor Creek Range and 4 at Juniper Butte Range, both associated with Mountain Home Air Force Base. Thirty-four species (bird, mammal, reptile) were documented, 13 occurring on both ranges. No threatened or endangered species were observed at any of the locations. This confirms prior findings that no federally listed species occur on U. S. Air Force lands. Observed Special Status Species which are on the Idaho Conservation Data Center’s List for Owyhee County include the Western Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia hypugaea), Ferruginous Hawk (Buteo regalis), Sage Thrasher (Oreoscoptes montanus), Brewer's Sparrow (Spizella breweri), and Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludovicianus). The Greater Sage-Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus), a species of concern, was also observed. One noxious weed, Rush Skeletonweed (Chondrilla juncea), was observed in the Brown's Gulch and Pot Hole Canyon transects.
