This compilation spreadsheet presents Whitman's herpetofauna observations, which he recorded and collected in various spreadsheets over 12 years in Idaho, from 2008 through 2020. After retiring from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and returning to Idaho, he saw the need for better distribution data for herpetofauna and, out of personal interest, began collecting observations in the county he and his wife, also a wildlife biologist, live. While out on other work and in other counties, he tried to capture, identify, and release various herp species. Over the years, his efforts became more directed and he instigated informal "surveys." Regan compiled Whitman's various herp spreadsheets and notes into 13 standardized spreadsheets to better enable the transfer of the observations to the Idaho Species Diversity Database. Together the spreadsheets contain just over 2800 observations in Idaho (plus 9 observations in Oregon and Montana, 2 duplicate observations in Idaho, and 13 that lack location information) involving 22 herp species. For four of the snake species (Thamnophis elegans, Charina bottae, Coluber constrictor (mormon), and Crotalus viridis) and to some extent one other (Pituophis catenifer), Whitman recorded whether the individuals were on his formalized "catch per unit effort" (CPUE) survey routes in Lemhi County.
