Abstract:

Few observations concerning the reproductive activity of pocket mice (Perognathus) have been recorded. Duke concluded that Perognathus in Utah may have two litters in the southern limits of its range, but one litter is probably most common. Perognathus californicus, Perognathus flavus, and Perognathus longimembris have been bred and reared in captivity. Rodents on a 7.30-hectare grid at the National Reactor Testing Station in Idaho were captured, marked, and repeatedly recaptured between 21 May and 8 September 1967. Repeated recaptures provided a means of observing the progress of reproductive activity for Peroguathus parvus in its natural environment.
