Abstract:

The genus Argiacris comprises four species and one additional subspecies of brachypterous catantopine grasshoppers superficially resembling certain species of Melanoplus. They are as follows: A. rehni Hebard, southcentral Montana; A. militaris militaris (Scudder), militaris laticerea, n. subsp., keithi, n. sp., and amissuli, n. sp., from central Idaho. Except for amissuli, the Idaho species all occur above 8,000 feet in habitats of scant vegetation. A. amissuli and rehni occur at about 5,000 feet elevation, in a zone which includes some sagebrush.
