Pronghorn Monitoring

With this collaborative project with Utah State University, we’re trying to develop new techniques for monitoring the status and trend of Idaho’s pronghorn populations. Specifically, we’re investigating ways we might predict pronghorn fawn production and survival each year based on the body condition of adult females and the condition and quality of the food available to them.

We are also evaluating the use of ground and aerial surveys to estimate fawn:doe ratios and population size.

Our goal is to develop methods for managers to efficiently assess the status of pronghorn populations at a reasonable cost.
