    Anglers often wonder how Fish and Game manages the fishing seasons, so the department created a three-part video series to help people understand the challenges and rationale behind the chinook fisheries.

    more than 100,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout at the following locations during May.

    Commission to meet in Salmon in May

    Idaho Fish and Game Commission will meet May 16-17 at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s Salmon regional office in Salmon.

    New hunters or hunters new to Idaho are invited to attend the Idaho Big Game Hunting 101 workshop sponsored by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The May 6th outdoor skills workshop will be held at Fish and Game Headquarters – 600 S. Walnut in Boise from 8am to 5pm.

    Spring chinook seasons open Saturday

    The spring chinook salmon fishing season will open Saturday, April 22, with a four-day-a-week season in the Clearwater River drainage, and daily fishing on the Snake, lower Salmon and Little Salmon rivers.

    Hunters, anglers and trappers are also reminded they will see new prices starting May 1 with an additional $5 Access/Depredation fee for resident adults and $10 for nonresident adults when they buy their first annual license.

    Another bighorn euthanized after contacting domestic sheep near Challis

    A one-year-old bighorn sheep ram that mingled with domestic sheep near Challis was euthanized Friday, April 14, to prevent the sheep from potentially carrying disease back to the wild herd. This is the third bighorn sheep removed from the same area on the edge of Challis since March 30.

    The Idaho big game hunting brochure for 2017 and 2018 seasons is available now. 

    The printed brochure, which contains seasons and rules for deer, elk, pronghorn, black bear, mountain lion and gray wolf, is in the printing process and will be available at license vendors and Fish and Game offices by April 24.

    First Super Hunt drawing deadline is May 31

    Hunters hoping to enter Idaho’s first Super Hunt drawing have through May 31 to apply.

    The new fee will pay for land access for sportsmen and women, and depredation prevention and payments to farmers and ranchers if big game damages their operations.
