March 8: Upper Salmon River Steelhead Fishing Report
Steelhead angler effort on the upper Salmon River increased substantially during the past week. Angler effort increased in all location codes, and the majority of anglers were observed fishing between the Middle Fork Salmon and Pahsimeroi rivers in location codes 15, 16, and 17.

Public can comment on 2021-22 migratory game bird season proposals starting March 11
Fish and Game will be setting new seasons for migratory game birds in April and gathering public input on upcoming season proposals starting March 11.

MK Nature Center, parking lot in Boise closed until mid-April for construction
The MK Nature Center parking lot will be closed to the public starting March 8. The work is expected to wrap up by early- to mid-April. The Visitor Center and licensing desk will also be closed for the duration of the parking lot construction.

Idaho Power stocked 50,000 trout in C.J. Strike Reservoir in early March
Southern Idaho anglers got another excuse to go fishing in March after Idaho Powder stocked 50,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout in C.J. Strike Reservoir south of Mountain Home.

Idaho elk and deer hunters had increased harvests in 2020, and elk hunting continues to steam toward all-time highs for consecutive years of harvest above 20,000 animals.

Pike removal to continue in sections of Lake Coeur d’Alene
Biologists with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe will resume gill netting efforts this spring to reduce northern pike numbers in Windy Bay, Benewah, Chatcolet, Round, and Hidden Lakes. In cooperation with the Idaho Fish and Game, the project aims to reduce pike predation on native, lake-run cutthroat trout in select areas of Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Southern Idaho residents encouraged to temporarily remove bird feeders due to a suspected outbreak of salmonellosis
After reports of sick and dying birds began to reach biologists in northern Idaho, it appears that salmonellosis, also commonly known as salmonella, might have been detected in southern Idaho. Salmonellosis is a common and generally fatal bird disease.
