Trout density in the Henrys Fork of the Snake River tracks similar to amounts of winter snow and water supplies
Wild trout populations are resilient and can fluctuate from year to year based on growth, recruitment, and mortality in the fish population.

Sixteen Idaho hunters draw Super Hunt tags, second drawing deadline is Aug. 10
Just over 150,000 hunters applied for the first Super Hunt drawing. Of those, 54,004 were for eight deer tags, 51,042 were for eight elk tags, 10,063 were for eight pronghorn tags, 22,464 were for one moose tag and 12,913 entries were for one Super Hunt Combo, which includes a tag for each of the four species. Hunters still have a second chance to win a Super Hunt tag this year.

The 2022 Idaho Master Naturalist Rendezvous will be held this September 15-18 in Sandpoint. This will be our 4th Rendezvous. It is a special time to connect with Idaho Master Naturalists around the state, see a new place, meet new people, and get education hours!

F&G alerts hunters and recreationists of a confirmed grizzly sighting north of Salmon
The bear was photographed by a hunter’s game camera on May 14 and clearly identified as a grizzly. It is not known if the bear is still in the area.

Southwest Region rainbow trout stocking schedule - June
Fish and Game staff will be stocking 103,000 catchable-size (10 to 12 inch) trout across the Southwest Region in September.

Fishing trailer event at Blackfoot's Jensen Grove canceled
The Take Me Fishing Trailer event scheduled at Jensen Grove Pond in Blackfoot on June 14 has been canceled due to low water levels. However, the event has been relocated to another popular Southeast Region fishery!

Idaho Fish and Game Commission is scheduled to hold a conference call on Tuesday, June 14 at 9 a.m. MDT. The Commission is scheduled to make a final decision on Chinook salmon season settings for the Lochsa, South Fork and Upper Salmon Rivers.

Project WILD opportunities are now available
Idaho Fish & Game’s Project WILD program is offering three educational courses this spring. These workshops are designed mostly for classroom teachers, but are also ideal for scout leaders, daycare providers and other adults interested in learning and sharing more about our natural world with others.

Teach the next generation of hunters by becoming a Hunter Education instructor
Idaho Fish and Game’s Hunter Education Program is looking for new volunteer instructors to help ensure that the newest generation of hunters has a thorough understanding of safety, ethics and conservation. Hunter Education courses are offered throughout the state, on weekends and weekday evenings, and are taught by veteran hunters who volunteer their time.

Hunter education courses offered in the Clearwater Region this summer

Making more Pacific lamprey through translocation
Once very common across the Columbia River basin, Pacific lamprey are native to the Pacific Northwest and have declined substantially, mainly because it is very difficult for them to navigate dams and reservoirs. Unless one knows where to look, most people will not see lamprey in the wild today.
