Resident Idaho hunters looking to potentially double their elk hunting opportunities this year are in luck. Some nonresident elk tags remain available for residents as second tag for the 2021 season. After Aug. 1, unsold nonresident tags remaining can be bought by resident hunters as second tags, but still at the nonresident price.

Mule deer doe illegally killed with blunt-tipped arrow in Soda Springs
On October 11, a yearling mule deer doe was found dead on Big Springs Road in Soda Springs. Among the violations: the doe had been shot in the gut with a blunt-point arrow, an unlawful weapon for archery hunting big game.

F&G's stocked access sites provide golden opportunity for Idaho pheasant hunters
Fish and Game will stock 37,000 pheasants across the 23 permitted areas, including 14 WMAs. That’s an average of roughly 1,600 birds per release property. In recent years, Fish and Game staff has solicited local input from those with an affinity for pheasants and doubled the traditional number of pheasant stocking sites across the Gem State.

Meridian angler sets record with huge Snake River grass carp
Congratulations to Cris Endicott of Meridian for setting a new certified state record for grass carp. Endicott caught the monster carp on Oct. 10 using a twin-tail bass jig while prospecting the Snake River for smallmouth bass.

Idaho Fish and Game untangles buck from backyard hammock in Pocatello
It took two Fish and Game personnel to grab and hold the mule deer buck while another cut the twisted, knotted ropes from the antlers. Although rut behavior in the fall increases instances of bucks getting entangled with various yard items, all deer can get into trouble throughout the year with obstacles found in yards.
