Fish and Game officers received a tip from the Citizens Against Poaching hotline on Saturday, October 2, 2021 reporting an intact bull elk with its head and antlers removed.

Mature whitetail buck shot and left near Medimont, Idaho
A mature white-tailed deer was found shot and left to waste near Medimont, Idaho in the Willow Creek drainage. The incident occurred either on September 30th or the morning of October 1st. Rifle season was not open during this time.

Oct. 4 Upper Salmon River Weekly Steelhead Fishing Report
Idaho Fish and Game personnel began interviewing steelhead anglers along the upper Salmon River on Friday, October 1. Angler effort over the weekend was low, and no anglers interviewed reported catching a steelhead.

If you're a rifle hunter, your deer season starts Oct. 10 in most parts of the state. The general, any-weapon deer hunts includes most, but not all, units. You can find out which units are available in the Big Game Seasons and Rules booklet.

Hunter recipes: Dove pot pie, a savory treat based on a frozen-food staple
Chicken pot pie was a staple growing up. I wish I could tell the world that my family made them from scratch but, more often than not, they were the pre frozen variety. Those little pies still hold a good place in my heart, mostly because they taste really, really good. I am doing my best to upscale this concept with a little dove meat and some granny smith apples while at the same time keep it true to the original.

Fish and Game’s pheasant stocking program cancelled at the Zollinger Access Yes! property in southeast Idaho
The Zollinger Access Yes! property near Preston in Franklin County will not be stocked by Idaho Fish and Game this fall as planned due to significant changes in habitat conditions at that location. However, birds will still be released to two Southeast Region Wildlife Management Areas during pheasant season.

Call to Idaho poaching hotline leads to heavy sentences for Missourians
A simple call to Idaho’s Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) hotline of reported illegal wildlife crimes in Custer and Blaine counties, resulted in multiple-year hunting, fishing and trapping license revocations, jail time, and thousands of dollars in fines and restitution to the state.

Walleye locations in Lake Pend Oreille during late-September
Although walleye are still concentrated near the Sandpoint-area bridges, Oden Bay, Kootenai Bay and around Fisherman’s Island, the most obvious change since the late-August blog is the increasing number of walleye moving to the Clark Fork delta and up the Clark Fork River.
