Hatchery highlights for October: Cooler water means lots of trout headed to Idaho waters
Idaho Fish and Game is stocking about 312,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout throughout the state in October. With so many fish stocked in so many places, it can be hard for anglers to sift through the stocking forecasts and records to identify noteworthy stocking events. To make it easier, we asked Fish and Game hatchery staff to highlight some stocking events for the month:

More trout headed to southeast Idaho fisheries in October

On Friday, Sept. 24 Idaho Department of Fish and Game officers euthanized an adult male black bear near the junction of Hill Road and Lancaster Drive in Boise.

F&G euthanizes black bear in southeast Boise industrial park compound
On the morning of September 18, Idaho Department of Fish and Game officers euthanized a black bear in a southeast Boise industrial park compound between South Federal Way and I-84. The black bear was a subadult male that had been captured and moved from a north-end Boise residential neighborhood 4 months earlier. Despite having been relocated to the mountains 40 miles away, the bear returned to town.

Despite low return, F&G's sockeye program releases 1,211 spawners into Redfish and Pettit lakes
Despite less than four dozen fish completing the 900-mile journey from the Pacific Ocean to the Sawtooth Basin near Stanley, Idaho Fish and Game and its partners have 2,750 adult sockeye available to naturally spawn in Redfish and Pettit lakes, or to be artificially spawned to replenish hatcheries.
