Clearwater Region waters to be stocked in July
Over thirteen thousand fish will be stocked at eight different locations in the Clearwater Region this July. Pack some sunscreen, a cooler and some fishing gear and prepare to have some quality fishing time on the water this July. Fishing can be a fun, family summer activity --great for creating new memories!

Chinook fishing season will end on the Little Salmon River on July 1
Chinook fishing on the Little Salmon River from the mouth upstream to Smokey Boulder Road will close at the end of fishing hours on July 1. Anglers can see what areas remain open for fishing by checking the Chinook Salmon Seasons and Rules webpage.

June 28, 2022 - South Fork Salmon River Chinook Fishery Update
The South Fork Salmon River Chinook fishery has been open for almost two full weeks now. Effort has been very minimal and no anglers have reported catching a salmon on the South Fork yet, but I’m very happy to report to you that the fish are beginning to show up!

Biologists begin grizzly bear research trapping in Caribou-Targhee National Forest
Idaho Fish and Game will conduct grizzly bear research trapping in the Upper Snake Region from early July until late August. This research is part of an on-going effort to monitor grizzly bears in eastern Idaho. Grizzly trapping takes place during this time to avoid spring and fall black bear hunting seasons.

Each year, biologists sample thousands of Chinook salmon and steelhead at Lower Granite Dam as they return to spawning tributaries in the Snake River basin.

MK Nature Center bridge closed for re-decking project July 5-8
The main bridge at the MK Nature Center in Boise will be closed for a construction project July 5-8. During this time, the bridge will be closed to visitor access for replacement of the decking.

Two yearling moose captured and removed from Pocatello
Idaho Fish and Game personnel responded to reports of moose in and near Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello. The moose were captured and moved to a remote location in the region.

Update and preliminary results of rainbow trout suppression on the South Fork Snake River for the conservation of Yellowstone cutthroat trout
In our April newsletter we described the background and justification for our ongoing efforts to conserve native cutthroat trout in the South Fork Snake River by suppressing rainbow trout. This is the second year where we attempted to achieve the goal of removing 30 percent of the rainbow trout population.

New Fish and Game K-9 officer joins the department in the Magic Valley Region
Enforcement staff with the Fish and Game, Magic Valley Region have selected a new K-9 officer to join their ranks. Riley, a two-year-old chocolate lab, was recently selected to join three other Department K-9’s across the state.

F&G biologists work to protect a popular Yellowstone cutthroat fishery from pelican predation
In 1993, there were roughly 200 American white pelicans occupying Blackfoot Reservoir; by 2007 breeding pelicans reached a high of 3,400. During the same timeframe, spawning cutthroat trout in the upper Blackfoot River collapsed. What happens when a novel predator and vulnerable prey cross paths? Fish and Game managers are working to find the key to unlocking a solution for both species.
