  • Spaces Still Open for Hunter Ed Classes

    Several upcoming rifle hunter education classes in the Magic Valley Region still have spaces available for those who missed the registration week. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1975 must complete the state-approved hunter education course before buying a license to hunt in Idaho.

  • Hunt Drawing Results Available

    Hunters who have been successful in drawings for deer, elk, antelope, fall black bear, and wild turkey controlled hunts will be notified by postcard by July 10. Unsuccessful applicants will not get a card in the mail.
  • Input Sought on Outfitting for Turkeys

    Idaho's wild turkey population and hunting opportunity has increased dramatically over the past decade. Tag sales increased from 1,333 to 16,781 between 1989 and 1999. Similarly, the harvest increased from 228 to 5,458 turkeys during the same time.

    The correct spelling of the name of the angler who holds the current state record for tiger muskie is Dave Tacheny. The last name was misspelled in a news release on the record in last week's news package.

  • South Fork Salmon Season is Closed

    Anglers are reminded that the fishing season for hatchery chinook salmon on the South Fork of the Salmon River closed July 5. Salmon cannot be targeted by anglers fishing on the South Fork of the Salmon River, even if the fish are to be released.
  • Leftover Permits on Sale July 15

    Permits which did not sell in the recent controlled hunt drawings will go on sale at Fish and Game license vendors July 15. Sales will begin at 10 a.m. Mountain Time and 9 a.m. Pacific Time.
  • Unfilled Controlled Hunt Permits On Sale July 15

    Leftover tags for deer, elk, and turkey that did not fill during the regular controlled hunt permit drawing in June will be sold over the counter at the Magic Valley Region Fish and Game Office and regional vendor outlets on Saturday, July 15.
  • Hailey Bowhunter Education Class Dates Set; Register Now!

    A bowhunter education class for all first-time archers will be held in Hailey from July 17 through July 20; each class session is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The class will be held in the basement of the new Blaine County Courthouse.

    The season for hatchery chinook salmon on the South Fork of the Salmon River will close at 9:00 p.m. tonight, July 5.

    Fishing for spring chinook will close July 4 on the Little Salmon, mainstem Clearwater and the North Fork Clearwater at the end of the legal fishing day, 9 p.m.
