The Pend Oreille Chapter of the Idaho Master Naturalists is hosting limited and safe open hours at the Waterlife Discovery Center through the month of August. Volunteer Master Naturalists will be available Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This Idaho Fish & Game facility can be found at 1591 Lakeshore Drive in Sagle. Also known as the Sandpoint Hatchery, the property is now a regional education center as well as a redistribution point for rainbow trout being stocked in North Idaho lakes.
Many interesting displays are exhibited on the ample, covered porch. One family unit is allowed on the porch at one time. There is regular cleaning and face masks available. Master Naturalists are on-hand to answer questions and show off this facility.
In 2014, the Pend Oreille Master Naturalists received a grant from the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation to revamp the former hatchery manager’s home into a science education center.
Visitors are invited to bring a picnic, walk the wetland interpretive trail or just wander the beautiful grounds on the shores of Pend Oreille River.
