Although December 18 marks the last of the scheduled pheasant releases throughout the Clearwater region, pheasant season runs through the end of December. An upland game bird permit and online sign-up is still required through December 31 to hunt pheasants at stocked Clearwater region locations.

Over 1,300 pheasants were stocked since the beginning of October at four locations including the Genesee Access area, Peterson Loop, Palouse Youth-only area, and the CMWMA Redbird parcel. "This year, we partnered with these local landowners to provide a unique experience to expand the program," says Don Jenkins, Clearwater region wildlife habitat manager.  "Overall, the program is well-received and we will likely provide an similar opportunity next year. If you or anyone you know has land that would be suitable for pheasant releases and you would consider allowing sportsmen access, contact the Clearwater regional office and talk to access coordinator, Kyle Lunsford about signing up!" Jenkins and Lunsford would especially like to see properties available for sportsman access in the Cottonwood/Grangeville areas. "We are looking to expand release sites to agricultural land in the southern portions of the Clearwater region to further spread out the pheasant hunting opportunity", says Lunsford.
