Rifle & Bow Hunter Registration Dates Set for Region

idfg-staff
Registration for spring and summer rifle and bow hunter education classes will be held at seven locations throughout the region the last week of February and the first week of March. This will be the only opportunity to sign up for one of these classes before the controlled hunt application period. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1975 must complete the state-approved rifle hunter education course if they intend to purchase an Idaho hunting license. The basic course is a minimum of 12 hours; it includes topics such as weapons safety, care of game, wildlife law enforcement, survival, hunter responsibilities, and wildlife management principles. In addition, students must demonstrate weapons safety proficiency in a field practical and actual live firing on the gun range. For prospective bowhunters, all first time archers (regardless of age) must complete the basic 11-hour course of instruction before purchasing an archery permit. It covers archery equipment, tree stand safety, care of game, blood trailing, hunter ethics, and shot placement. Listed below are the locations, dates, and times of registration sessions; a list of available courses will be posted at each site. It is not necessary to register in person; however, name, address, phone number, date of birth, and social security number of each student are needed for class enrollment.
