IDAHO FALLS – Ever since Becker Pond was constructed at Ryder Park in Idaho Falls it has been a hit with the community.  The pond was so popular that in order to make sure there were enough stocked fish to go around that the daily limit had to be dropped to two fish.  Hot summer days also meant that as the summer drug on that water temperatures increased to the point that fish became lethargic.  A plan to create a second pond at Ryder Park should allow for more water flow to keep water temperatures cooler and provide more fishable shoreline.  In order to help families be able to get out at no cost, the Idaho Department of Fish & Game will be making every Monday evening all summer a free fishing opportunity at Ryder Park!

Starting on Monday, June 5, and running through the end of August, every Monday night will be a free fishing opportunity for those people that register at the bully barn located at Ryder Park.  The free fishing will take place from 7 – 9 PM only.  In addition to free fishing, loaner fishing poles and tackle will be provided on a first come basis.  Even bait will be provided!

For those that have never fished, personnel will be on hand to help with the basics and will even show how to care for fish that are caught. This opportunity is open to everyone, both residents and non-residents, and young and old.
