Are you a safe and responsible hunter or trapper? Are you passionate about hunting and trapping ethics? Do you like sharing your knowledge and skills with youth and adults new to Idaho’s hunting and trapping traditions? If so, consider becoming a volunteer hunter or trapper education instructor.
To get started, attend one of Fish and Game’s New Instructor Orientation classes coming up in southeast Idaho. These classes also serve as great refresher courses for those who are already certified hunter or trapper education instructors.
- Tuesday, March 12, Soda Springs, Emergency Services Building, 40 West Center St, behind Sanders Furniture
- Wednesday, March 13, Pocatello, Fish and Game Regional Office, 1345 Barton Road
Both classes are free of charge and will run from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
Those who attend will learn about teaching hunter, bowhunter, and trapper education and will start the process for becoming a certified instructor for any or all of those programs.

Instructor orientations outline how to organize a class, select meeting sites, order supplies, and get students registered and certified. Participants also learn how to use the hunter and trapper education curriculums and how to teach using various effective methods and styles.
Maybe you don’t think you would be comfortable teaching a class on your own, but would love a team-teaching opportunity. Maybe you don’t have 15 hours to give to a class, but you certainly could teach a field day. Maybe you can only teach one class a year. Whatever the situation, we can provide the classroom set-up that best fits you!
