Q. If I find a dead animal along the road, can I keep it? A. It is illegal to pick up wildlife hit by vehicles. Protected wildlife that has died of natural or accidental causes is considered the property of the state. Parts of animals that have died from natural causes may be kept for personal use. These parts, such as horns, antlers, skulls, teeth, bear and lion parts, may be sold or bartered. The horns of bighorn sheep that have died of natural causes must be pinned by Fish and Game if kept, but they may not be sold.
