Basing fishing closures on reduced risk to a relatively small portion of the local trout population is unlikely to change the overall numbers in the near or long term.

Winter survival estimates for mule deer, elk remain above average and similar to 2020
Monday, May 17, 2021 - 10:31 AM MDTFish and Game has been monitoring winter survival of fawns for 23 years, and the average survival of fawns has been 57 percent. If, as anticipated, survival in 2021 continues to track similarly to 2020, it would mark two years of above-average survival for mule deer fawns statewide, which means mule deer herds are growing.

It's good news if that trend continues, because survival of both mule deer fawns and elk calves in 2019-20 ended up above-average at the end of the monitoring period. But threats to wintering wildlife are not over for 2020-21, and a lot can change in March and April.
