About the position

The Department is seeking a temporary Fisheries Technician assisting on the Lake Pend Oreille Fishery Recovery Project.

General Information: 
Incumbents must be able to work a variable schedule under adverse weather conditions, lift and carry/pack up to 50 lbs. This is a full time (40 hours/week) non-benefited position. The position may require work outside of a typical 9-5 work schedule. Weekend and some holiday work may be required. Housing maybe available. This position runs from September 1st, 2020 through October 31st, 2020. There is the opportunity for a 5 month rehire starting January 1st, 2021 based on perform during fall 2020 netting season.
Responsibilities: 
Incumbent will work as part of a research team including commercial gillnetting crews and other IDF&G biologists and technicians. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting in gillnetting efforts for lake trout suppression, sample processing and data entry, and preparing otoliths for ageing and cohort analyses. This is a highly collaborative research project and incumbents may be given opportunities to work on other projects related to the Lake Pend Oreille Fishery Recovery Project.
Qualifications: 
Demonstrated ability to handle responsibility and work independently. Course work in a Natural Resource/Biological Science is strongly preferred, but not mandatory. Preference will be given to applicants who have a Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries, Biology, or a related field, or are currently enrolled in a bachelors program in one of these fields. Experience handling fish, and some knowledge of fish anatomy, morphology, and physiology as well as age and growth analyses is preferred.
