About the position

The incumbent will serve as an electrofishing crew leader in IDFG’s Lemhi Effectiveness Monitoring Program in Salmon, Idaho. This project monitors fishery response to restoration efforts in the Lemhi River basin to understand the effectiveness of various habitat actions, and help guide future restoration efforts through an adaptive management process.

General Information: 
Must accommodate a flexible schedule (holidays, weekends, and nights) and be willing to work for 10 consecutive days.
Responsibilities: 
Primary duties include: leading a four-person crew, backpack and barge electrofishing, PIT-tagging salmonids (including ESA- listed fish), collecting biological data (weights, lengths, DNA, scales, etc.), data management (recording, organizing, and error checking in multiple databases), and maintaining field equipment. Additional duties include: redd count surveys, operating rotary screw traps and weirs, and summarizing data.

Note: Housing is not provided. This is a benefited position not to exceed 1385 hours.
Qualifications: 
It is preferred that applicants have a BS degree in fisheries (or related field), or equivalent in job experience and training. Applicants must be detail oriented and have the ability to work in close proximity with research collaborators, as well as alone with minimal supervision. Preference will be given to individuals with leadership experience. Incumbent must be able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to lift up to 60 pounds, pack up to 40 pounds for several miles, walk up to eight miles a day along stream banks and trails, and work in all weather conditions. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
