About the position

The Department is seeking a Fisheries Technician (non-benefitted) to work both on Fisheries Management projects (fish population surveys, angler surveys, etc.) and Fishing and Boating Access projects (improvement and maintenance). The McCall area offers a vast array of recreational opportunities including hunting, fishing, biking, hiking, and whitewater rafting. Shared housing is provided (camp trailer).

Positions Available/Dates Needed:

One 5 month non-benefited technician (not to exceed 5 months)– Approximately June 1, 2020 through October (dates somewhat flexible)

General Information: 
Applicants must (with or without reasonable accommodations) work in inclement weather for long periods of time, handle live and dead fish, be able to hike long distances in rough terrain while carrying up to 50 lbs., stand/work in cold water for long periods of time, work underwater using snorkel equipment, and lift/carry up to 60 lbs.
Applicant must be willing to accommodate a flexible schedule. Work periods may be up to 10 consecutive days. Shared housing is provided in camp trailers.
Responsibilities: 
Technician will work both independently and as part of a 2-3 person crew. Primary responsibilities will include working to maintain and improve local fishing and boating access sites, and conducting fishery management surveys in various water bodies throughout the region. Work will be conducted in both frontcountry and backcountry areas. Backcountry work will involve hiking and camping for several days at a time. Incumbents should be comfortable and confident working independently and as part of a crew. Incumbents should also be comfortable with general maintenance and repair activities.
Qualifications: 
It is preferred that applicants have a B.S. degree in fisheries management, ecology, or related field; or equivalent in training and experience. The ability to maintain a positive attitude and uncompromising work ethic through uncomfortable conditions is very important. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
