About the position

The Clearwater Region is seeking eight (8) temporary Fisheries Technicians (non-benefited) to conduct angler creel surveys and assist other regional fisheries staff when directed during the fall 2019 Chinook Salmon and steelhead fishery on the Clearwater River, Salmon River, and Snake River drainage.

General Information: 
Applicants with or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to traverse rocky, steep, stream banks carrying a variety of equipment intermittently weighing up to 30lbs, stand for long periods of time, safely drive for multiple hours per shift, work in adverse weather conditions, and handle large harvested fish. Work averages 40 hours per week including most weekends and holiday days. Schedules change each week. Depending on monitoring needs, successful applicant’s employment will be up to four months. This position involves contacting large numbers of anglers so good communication skills are required. Overnight stays and out of area, travel may be required.
Accurately collect and record Chinook and steelhead harvest and effort data from anglers using hard copy data sheets, collect biological samples, social surveys, and assist other regional fisheries staff when directed.
Basic experience using computers is required. Basic math skills are required. Applicants should have some knowledge of the fish species of Idaho including identification. Applicants must be able to interact with the public in a professional and positive manner, work independently, and follow set protocols while accurately collecting data. Applicants should be detail oriented, self- motivated, and safety conscious. Good handwriting a plus. Must be 18 and have a valid driver’s license.
