About the position

The Fisheries Research Office in Nampa, Idaho is seeking one temporary Fisheries Biological Aide ($10.60/hr. DOE; non-benefited) to work as a member of a fisheries research team conducting wild trout research. This position will contribute with fieldwork throughout southern Idaho from June 3 – August 30. Interested candidates can apply from 5/15/2017 to 6/15/2017, but the announcement may close sooner if a candidate is selected.

General Information: 
This position requires travel with a research team throughout southern Idaho for periods of up to eight (8) days. Incumbent will work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Start times vary from 6:30-9:00 a.m. and end from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents must be able to work and camp in extreme weather conditions, hike long distances (>9 mi.) in rough terrain, operate ATVs and four (4) wheel drive vehicles in steep/rough terrain, and lift/carry equipment up to 50 lbs. Camping equipment, food and beverages, and transportation are provided to and from field sites. No housing is provided.
Duties will include electrofishing streams, rivers, and lakes; backpacking; gill netting alpine lakes; maintaining and repairing equipment (sampling equipment, vehicles, etc.); and collecting, recording, and managing data.
Minimum qualifications require (1) year of college in fisheries, biology, or related field, or equivalent in training and work experience required. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred qualifications include but are not limited to experience collecting and managing data, navigation with topographical maps and GPS, a strong work ethic, the ability to follow directions, and work within a team.
