About the position

Nampa Research is seeking  (1) temporary 4 month non-benefitted Fisheries Technician to assist with our Idaho Salmon and Steelhead Monitoring and Evaluation Study. The work site is located in Stanley, Idaho.

General Information: 
This position is based out of the Nampa Research office where Technicians operate and maintain two rotary screw traps. The work sites are on Marsh Creek and upper Salmon River at the Sawtooth Hatchery. The work schedule is typically eight days on with six days off, including weekends and some holidays. A camp trailer and groceries are provided during the work shift.
Incumbents must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds with occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances, with or without reasonable accommodations. This position often involves working in cold water for long periods in variable and often adverse weather conditions
Technicians are responsible for maintaining and operating two rotary screw traps. Typical trap duties include: Collecting and PIT-tagging juvenile steelhead and Chinook salmon, measuring and weighing fish, collecting genetic and scale samples, mounting scales for aging, recording biological information, data entry on a laptop computer, routine QA/QC of field data, maintaining field equipment, camp trailers and fleet vehicles.
Applicants should have a BS degree in fisheries or related field or the equivalent from job experience and training. Individuals that have experience operating screw traps, implanting PIT tags, collecting biological data from both adult and juvenile salmonids will receive preference. Proficiency in Windows based software such as Word, Access, and Excel is essential for the position. Experience towing and backing trailers, operating ATV’s and 4x4 vehicles, driving on snow and ice covered roads, operating chain saws, winches and a variety of power and hand tools is desired. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
