About the position

Nampa Research is seeking one temporary (non-benefitted) Fisheries Technician to serve as assistant snorkel crew leader. The field crew will conduct snorkeling and habitat surveys to determine fish abundance and distribution in the Salmon and Clearwater River drainages.

General Information: 
This is a lead position for a six-person crew. Much of the work is in remote areas with difficult access. Crewmembers may be required to hike 4-12 miles per day in steep and rugged terrain and carry backpacks weighing 40-60 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations. Crew members routinely walk long distances in and along streams to access sites. Surveys are often conducted in swift and cold water under variable weather conditions.
The work schedule is typically eight days on and six off and average 10 hours per day. The crew will camp out during their stint in the field. All camp gear, snorkel equipment and food will be supplied by IDFG. Housing is not provided during days off.
Primary responsibilities will include: Assisting with planning of snorkel field trips, snorkel training and crew supervision. The technician will also enter snorkel data, perform database QA/QC, maintain fleet vehicles and field equipment. If needed, the technician may assist with other WSS projects.
Applicants should have a BS degree in fisheries or related field. Those with previous snorkeling or fisheries field work experience will be given preference. Proficiency in Windows based software such as Word, Access, and Excel is essential for the position. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

It is desired that individuals have the following skills and experience: fish identification, camping, backpacking, fly-fishing, navigating by GPS and topographical maps, operating 4x4 vehicles and ATV’s, towing and backing trailers, operating chainsaws.
