About the position

The Clearwater Region is seeking two (2) temporary Fisheries Research Data Technicians (non-benefited) to conduct angler creel surveys, brood stock collection, and assist other regional fisheries staff when directed during the spring 2018 steelhead fishery on the Clearwater River, Salmon River, and Snake River drainages.

General Information: 
Applicants with or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to traverse rocky, steep, stream banks carrying a variety of equipment intermittently weighing up to 50lbs for up to 3 miles each day, stand for long periods of time, safely drive for multiple hours per shift, work in adverse weather conditions, and handle large harvested fish. Work averages 25-40 hours per week including most weekends and holiday days. Schedules are randomized and change each week. Depending on monitoring needs, successful applicant’s employment will be up to four months. This position involves contacting large numbers of anglers so good communication skills are required. Overnight stays and out of area, travel may be required. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.
Accurately collect and record steelhead harvest and effort data from anglers using hard copy data sheets, collect biological samples, and assist other regional fisheries staff when directed.
Some college education in natural resources, biology, or related field is preferred. Basic experience using computers is required. Basic math skills are required. Applicants should have some knowledge of anadromous and resident fish species of Idaho including identification. Applicants must be able to interact with the public in a professional and positive manner, work independently, and follow set protocols while accurately collecting data. Applicants should be detail oriented, self- motivated, and safety conscious. Good handwriting a plus. Must have a valid driver’s license.
