About the position

The IDFG Smolt Monitoring Project uses large fish traps to collect data on salmon and steelhead trout migration.  One trap is located on the Snake River near Lewiston and one is located on the Salmon River near White Bird.  Incumbent will mainly work in Lewiston but may also be required to assist at the White Bird trap.  This is a weekend only position during the school year.

General Information: 
Room and board will be provided for the White Bird trap location. Room and board are not provided while working in Lewiston.

Incumbents must be able to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. with occasional lifting/carrying up to 100 lbs. for short distances and work long, strenuous hours in extreme weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Responsibilities: 
Processing fish at large fish traps to collect Chinook salmon and steelhead trout migration data. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring the trap and reporting any issues.
Qualifications: 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Some knowledge of fish life history, anatomy, and ecology preferred. Ability to handle live and dead fish. Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Useful Skills: Some knowledge of anadromous fishes, computers, mechanics, chain saws, power boat operation, the ability to work independently, have a high level of attention to detail, ability to work in extreme weather conditions, and handle live fish.
