DATE(S) NEEDED: Dependent upon river conditions and amount of work. Approximately mid-February through November 2019 (not to exceed 1385 hours in a 12-month period).

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Clearwater Region is seeking a temporary General Repair Mechanic (8 month - benefited) to assist with the IDFG Smolt Monitoring Project. The SMP uses large fish traps to collect data on Chinook salmon and steelhead trout migration. One trap is located on the Snake River near Lewiston and one is located on the Salmon River near White Bird.

General Information: 
Room and board will be provided for the White Bird trap location. Room and board are not provided while working in Lewiston. Some night and weekend work will be required.

Incumbents must be able to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. with occasional lifting/carrying up to 100 lbs. for short distances and work long, strenuous hours in extreme weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodations.
This position entails two aspects: fish trapping/marking and trapping equipment maintenance. During the spring fish trapping season, the incumbent will assist with fish marking and debris removal. This job opportunity also includes doing trap maintenance during and after the trapping season. Work will mainly be in Lewiston; however, some time will be spent at the White Bird trap.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. degree in fisheries, biology, or related field; or equivalent in training and experience. First Aid/CPR certification and previous snorkeling experience preferred. Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.

Useful Skills: It is preferred that applicants have good knowledge of welding (steel and aluminum), carpentry, electrical, mechanics, chain saws, hand/power tools, power boats, and computers. The person hired will be expected to work independently and in extreme weather conditions.
