About the position

The Clearwater Region is seeking a temporary Fisheries Biological Aide (non-benefited) to work as part of it's high mountain lake survey crew. 


General Information: 
This is a unique opportunity to work in the beautiful, rugged wilderness of north-central Idaho! Work on a 20-year research project exploring the effects of fish stockings on native amphibian populations. Work on a 2-person regional fisheries field crew. Conduct amphibian, fish, zooplankton, and habitat surveys on remote high mountain lakes throughout the Clearwater River basin.

This crew primarily works 8 days in the field followed by 6 days off, with some variability in work schedules. Field work is conducted in remote wilderness locations, requiring long hikes in extremely difficult terrain, including substantial off-trail hiking and navigation. While on duty, all food, sampling equipment and camp gear (except for sleeping bag) is provided. Weekend and holiday work is required.

With or without reasonable accommodations, applicants must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, hike long distances in rough mountainous terrain while carrying a 60+ lb. backpack, and handle live and dead fish.
Individuals should have the ability to: work independently, manage changes in priorities/scheduling, handle emergency situations in remote locations, have a high level of attention to detail, and substantial experience using GPS/compass/topo maps.
Minimum one year of college in fisheries, biology, or related studies, or equivalent in training and experience preferred. Previous backpacking experience is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required.
