About the position
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking to hire six (6) temporary Wildlife Research Technicians for wolf and mountain lion research in Idaho.
General Information:
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents are required to hike 8 to 12 miles per day for 8 days in a row. Crews will tent camp for extended periods of time while in study areas around the state. There is optional trailer housing for days off near Coeur d’ Alene, ID. Incumbents will work eight 10 hours days/biweekly. Up to $30/day provided for groceries while in field.
Responsibilities:
Deploy cameras in predicted wolf and mountain lion habitat throughout Idaho. Technicians will also survey wolf pack rendezvous site habitat and collect wolf scat samples. Technician will interact professionally with the public.
Qualifications:
An undergraduate degree in a natural resource degree is preferred, must have a valid driver’s license, get along well with others in a field setting, camp for extended periods of time, hike 8-12 miles per day for 8 days in a row, experience navigating using a GPS and map in remote settings, experience entering data into an excel spreadsheets or access databases, experience with 4x4 trucks and driving in rugged conditions is preferred, ability to follow a rigid protocol and record detailed data in a field setting, ability to make decisions in the field when unable to contact a supervisor.
