Assist regional fisheries staff conducting Chinook Salmon harvest surveys on the Little Salmon River near Riggins, Idaho.

General Information: 
This position is non-benefitted and runs from Early May thru August 10, 2018.
However, the position may end at an earlier date if the Chinook Salmon harvest quota is met early. Additional work at Rapid River Hatchery or the McCall Regional office MAY be available. No guarantees!

Responsibilities: 
Assist regional fisheries staff conducting Chinook Salmon harvest surveys on the Little Salmon River near Riggins, Idaho. Successful applicant will be responsible for on-site field supervision of one or two Data Technicians in the collection of chinook harvest interview and fish data. Supervises and assists in the entry of large volumes of data into an Access database.
Qualifications: 
Minimum qualifications include: Prefer two years of college in fisheries, wildlife, biology, or related field; or equivalent in training and experience. Some previous supervision experience is preferred but not mandatory. Applicants should have some knowledge of; life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species; and identifying various fish species. Some understanding of statistical survey design would be preferred. This position involves walking up and down rocky, steep stream banks carrying various equipment and working in all types of weather. The handling of dead fish is required with this position.

Work is five days a week, 40 – 50 hours per week and includes all weekend and holiday days. This position involves contacting large numbers of anglers so good communication skills are required. Sending and receiving emails and data over the internet and data entry into an Access database are important parts of the position so computer proficiency in these areas is also required. A valid driver’s license is also required!!
