About the position

The Panhandle Region is seeking two (2) temporary Fisheries Biological Aides (non-benefited) to assist in conducting fisheries management activities in northern Idaho. Pay rate: $10.35/hr. Announcement will close February 9, 2018.

General Information: 
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, handle live and dead fish, hike long distances in rough terrain while carrying a 40-50 lb. pack, stand/work in cold water for up to 10 hours per day, work underwater using snorkeling equipment, and lift/carry equipment up to 60 lbs. Incumbents must also be willing and able to interact with angling public on a regular basis.

Incumbents will work 40(+) hours per week. Work hours may vary depending on project needs. Some night work required. Work shifts will generally be Monday through Friday. Periodic weekend shifts will be required.
Responsibilities: 
Duties may include conducting angler surveys; sampling fish using electrofishing equipment and nets; conducting snorkel surveys; tagging fish; operation and basic maintenance of department trucks, boats, and other sampling equipment; and data entry.
Qualifications: 
Applicants must be able to work as part of a team in a professional and positive manner, follow set protocols, and accurately collect data. Applicants should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Experience operating and maintaining boats is preferred. Related experience and education typically gained through a minimum one year of college courses in fisheries, biology, or related studies; or equivalent in training is helpful, but not required.
