About the position

Nampa Research is seeking (4) temporary Fisheries Biological Aides to work as part of a summer field crew. The crew will conduct snorkel and habitat surveys to determine abundance and distribution of salmonids in the Salmon and Clearwater River drainages.

General Information: 
Much of the work is in remote areas with difficult access. Crew members may be required to hike 5-10 miles per day in steep and rugged terrain and carry backpacks weighing 40-60 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations. Crew members routinely walk long distances in and along streams to access sites. Surveys are often conducted in swift and cold water under variable weather conditions.
The work schedule is typically eight days on and six off and average 10 hours per day. The crew will camp out during their stint in the field. All camp gear, snorkel equipment and food will be supplied by IDFG. Housing is not provided during days off.
Responsibilities: 
The primary responsibilities are: conducting snorkel and habitat surveys while following established protocol, collecting field data and entering it electronically on tablets, performing QA/QC to ensure data is complete and accurate, maintaining field equipment and assisting with camp chores.
Qualifications: 
A minimum of one year of coursework at the college level in fisheries, biology or related field; or equivalent in training and experience. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

Applicants with fisheries experience will be given preference. It is desired that individuals have the following skills and experience: camping, backpacking, fly fishing, navigating by GPS and topographical maps, operating 4x4 vehicles, ATV’s, towing and backing trailers.
