About the position
The Salmon Region is seeking two (2) Fishery Technicians (8 month benefited) to assist with the anadromous fisheries program in Salmon, Idaho and the surrounding area. This unique area offers diverse recreational opportunities including hunting, fishing, biking, hiking, and whitewater rafting.
Incumbents must be able to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. with occasional lifting/carrying up to 100 lbs. for short distances and work long, strenuous hours in extreme weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodations.
The Technicians will also operate up to five adult fish weirs in Salmon River tributaries during the steelhead migration season. Responsibilities include PIT tagging, FLOY tagging, collecting biological data, maintenance of weirs, data entry and data management.
(August and September) Conduct Chinook Salmon spawning ground and carcass surveys on four major spawning tributaries of the upper Salmon River, data entry and data management, perform general maintenance/ upkeep on equipment and facilities. There is also opportunity to be involved in report writing.
Other responsibilities will include snorkeling surveys, habitat surveys, alpine lake surveys (gillnetting/angling), electrofishing, and equipment maintenance.
