About the position

The Salmon Region is seeking four (4) temporary Fisheries Research Data Technicians (non-benefited) to conduct angler creel surveys during the 2017 upper Salmon River spring Chinook fishery.

Dates Needed:

  • June 17, 2017 through August 10, 2017, start and end dates depend on run timing and harvest share quota.
General Information: 
Incumbents will work 40 hours per week. Each day will have two shifts. The morning shift runs from 6:00am to 2:00pm and the afternoon shift runs from 2:00pm to 10:00pm. The shift requires incumbents to work both weekend days with two weekdays off.

Incumbents must be able to stand for long periods of time, hike over rough and rugged terrain, safely drive for multiple hours per shift, and work in adverse weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Responsibilities: 
Collect and record Chinook salmon harvest and effort data from anglers, collect biological samples, and assist with data entry if needed.
Qualifications: 
Applicants must be able to interact with the public in a professional and positive manner, work independently, drive for long periods of time under variable road conditions, and follow set protocols while accurately collecting data. Applicants should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Good handwriting is a plus. Education leading toward a B.S. or equivalent in fisheries, wildlife management, biology, or other natural resources related field is preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license.
