About the position

The Magic Valley Regional Office is seeking a temporary Wildlife Technician (non-benefited) to perform wildlife and habitat management duties on the Camas Prairie Centennial Marsh and Carey Lake Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) near Fairfield, ID.

May 2017 - late September 2017

General Information:

On-site housing is provided throughout the duration of this position; however the incumbent is not required to live on the WMA.

Incumbents must be able to, with or without reasonable accommodations, perform physical and technical duties associated with wildlife habitat management; complete physically demanding projects, work in adverse (hot) weather conditions; and safely operate 4WD trucks, tractor with implements (disk, mower, etc.), ATV’s, chainsaws, and power trimmers.

 

Responsibilities: 
Perform wildlife and habitat management duties on WMA. Operate various equipment including, but not limited to, 4x4 truck, ATV, tractor w/ implements, chainsaw, power tools, sprayers, etc. Operate and maintain irrigation systems to food plots and agricultural grounds using center pivot and solid set irrigations systems. Conduct noxious weed control and monitor use of chemical herbicides. Build, repair, remove fences, maintain equipment, facilities, housing and grounds. Monitor wildlife population numbers, habitat use, and public use of WMA. Assist manager with other duties as assigned.


Qualifications: 
Must have a working knowledge of wildlife ecology and basic habitat requirements; education in wildlife management field preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to competently and safely operate a chainsaw, power trimmer, 4x4 truck, ATV, and tractor with implements (disk, mower, etc.). Must be knowledgeable in use of GPS units. Be able to communicate effectively with the public. Be at least 18 years of age. The abilities to work independently with minimal supervision and make efficient use of field time are essential requirements for this position.
