About the position

The Sawtooth Fish Hatchery is seeking one (1) Fishery Technician to assist with trapping, spawning, and rearing of Chinook salmon in Stanley, Idaho. Dates Needed: May 16, 2022 through September 9, 2022. (some flexibility available with exact start and end dates)

General Information: 
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents must be able to stand and work in cold water for up to five hours per shift; lift and carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds; and work in extreme weather conditions. Incumbents will work 40 hours per week. Work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, occasional weekend work rotations will be required. Dormitory style housing is provided free of charge.
Responsibilities: 
Assist with the trapping, spawning, and rearing of Chinook salmon at the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery. Perform routine fish culture duties, including feeding fish, cleaning and caring for fish rearing vessels, and maintaining hatchery grounds and equipment. Interact with the public in a professional and positive manner and assist with hatchery tours.
Qualifications: 
Applicants must be able to work independently and follow set protocols. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Fisheries related experience and education strongly preferred, but not required.
